Yeah, yeah, I know it’s pronounced hoo-ga but that doesn’t stop my brain from seeing hygge as in ‘jiggy’ so just humour me ok?
A relatively new arrival to the UK, this Danish concept celebrates all things cosy and heart-warming. Think hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire with wooly socks and a good book and you get the idea. A more stark contrast to the recent trend for kale shots and courgetti you could not find. I’ll happily give myself to a lifestyle that encourages me to lie under a duvet and eat cinnamon rolls by candlelight. What’s not to like?
This time of year was made for Hygge. The days may be cold and dark but simple pleasures like a warm bath or some mulled wine (or a warm bath of mulled wine) can make it all better. Who knows if it’s here to stay or if come January we’ll have ditched it quicker than you can say ‘All Inclusive to Benidorm’ but I’ll be hygge-ing the hell out of everything in the meantime.
Thanks to Boxcitement I’m all over it too, this month’s happy mail delivered a parcel bursting with a whole heap of Hygge! From the oh-so comfy wooly socks (essential Hygge attire) to a nifty candle holder that doubles up as a Christmas decoration this little box is such a treat. The theme changes monthly and you can see previous box contents (I want them all) on the website. My box was the ‘Oh How Hygge’ priced at £18 for a one off but there are various subscription options or mini-boxes available from £9.50 with free P&P. Use code YOURBOX and you’ll even get a cheeky 10% off*
Every buyer of a 3/6/12 month order or subscription as a Christmas gift will also receive a complimentary package of stationery and gifts for themselves as a thank you for ordering from Boxcitement- hooray!
If you like this particular box (scroll down for photo’s of what I received) you’ll need to be quick as it’s almost sold out. As Teacher/ Colleague/ Secret Santa presents go this is a perfect option and laughs in the face of a Fuzzy Peach gift set.
